Tranter's novels need to be spaced out (I'm sure you will agree) with others. They are finely written, for sure, but they are historical novels and the real Scotland needs to be remembered while we read them.
May I also suggest for your list "Along a Highland Road" by the late Dr Isobel Grant, and all of Timothy Neat's books?
