Well, that's much like the stories we see Xmarkers tell all too often of an event where someone won't allow them to wear the kilt. I would feel much like they do when they are told that (i.e. quite upset).
I don't wear a kilt very often, certainly not as often as I'd like to, but just knowing that I have kilts hanging in the closet is something that makes me happy. To me the kilt symbolizes my freedom, my ability to go against the grain. If I were to stop wearing the kilt, even though my day to day life may not change, it would be deeply unsettling to me, and I just wouldn't be the same unless I could find another outlet for that part of my personality.
