It would be as bad as forbidding me to wear blue jeans...after work.

For me, a kilt is about being self-secure enough to wear what is comfortable, not what is normally done. In Fairbanks, I wear trousers all winter. For all the claims of the warm air rising and keeping the legs warm, I have to note that there isn't any warm air to rise (at least outside - I do wear a kilt indoors while bumming around the house).
(WARNING! Graphic implications ahead!)
Since I started wearing a kilt regularly, my jock itch cleared up, my occasional discomfort from "too much pressure on the boys" happens a lot less, and the leg hair that jeans seem to rub off of my legs has grown back. I suspect that if I went back to all trousers, all the time, that those health benefits (small and anecdotal though they are) would go away.
I think what would bug me the most about not wearing kilts anymore is really that I would feel like I was afraid to dress for myself and feel that I was instead dressing to please others. And that would be sad.

Occasionally I wear sweatpants in the shop in winter when it's cold out (on days when the shop is not open and I am working in back). I find that I tend to sweat 'below the belt' MUCH MORE when I wear pants b/c all the hot air is trapped in the garment. When you wear a kilt, it's much more 'breathable'.

It's kind of funny;...that happens to be part of the reason that I don't wear a kilt very often. I guess it's different for each person.
I tried to ask my inner curmudgeon before posting, but he sprayed me with the garden hose…

Besides, being descended from both Scots and German peasants, the loss of my investment in kilts and accessories would scorch my soul. I have no one to whom to pass them on, my son being already a much larger man than I.
.
What size do you wear again... ahem... dad... daddy... hum.. father...
ok, how 'bout paw ???

Over the years I've had to wear a variety of uniforms; from fatigues and tigers (the camo of my time and place) to 3 piece suits. Now, while I don't wear a kilt every day, I do like the freedom of choice the kilt represents. However, that being said, to paraphrase Glen, if I have to wear trousers, the sun will still rise tomorrow.

What did Patrick Henry say?
Well I know he said Liberty but substitute Kilts and the emotions of several members of this forum would become clear.
And poor Hamish would never be able to leave his Castle!

No, I dare say he could. Even if all he owned for day to day were kilts, as may be the case, I would think he has a swimsuit somewhere he could still go out in. Unless that kind of beach is his cup of tea, then I guess he would be in trouble.
