Well done Ted you have the message loud and clear and this pre WW1 photo is not in the least bit unusual with the flat cap and kilt. Kilted pictures, post WW1 with flat cap are uncommon. Why the fashion changed I know not. All I can say is, it is not the fashion now-----thank goodness.
