A second question just came to me. Is there anything somewhat (even slightly) like a jabot that can be worn as daywear?

Ted, Stop thinking of "White Lacy" Jabots.
There are a HUGE # of alternatives
At the time the jacets we now ID as "Scottish" ( PC, Montrose etc) were comonally worn, ( Regency - Victorin periods) There were a LARRG # of styles of "Neck wear"
Ascots, Cravats, Neck clothes ETC, ETC. & in all colors.
I often wear an Ascot, or Neck cloth (in various colors. I also have a Black/silver Jabot that I wear for "formal wear"
