You need to add another choice. Tucking the tie into the shirt.
When I wear a tie with the kilt, it is either with a waistcoat, in which the point does not go south of the vest (there's no belt), and with a piper's shirt for piping. In the latter case, if I am not wearing a waistcoat because it is so bleeding hot and humid, then I tuck the tie into the shirt opening between the second and third button. You may wonder, if you care, if the tie gets soaked with perspiration. Yes a bit, but I wear an undershirt and the tie is a particularly cheap one that I wear just for such an occasion...when it is so bleeding hot and humid.
