OK, I have bought a couple of kilts from Bugpiper. He has an ex-Army kiltmaker, which means his kilts are bespoke, but pricey as heck. Bespoke means you get the MoD quality with whatever bennies you want (e.g. sporran belt loops).
The WPG Gordon kilts are nice, but the belts don't allow for extenders since they have double holes rather than single. Now, if someone knows a source for extenders for WPG kilts, please tell me!
Actually, WPG's quality is not as nice as a real MoD kilt, but they are far more easily come by. Not to mention that WPG's prices are pretty good and they have Gordon kilts in loads of sizes! Surplus kilts you have to hope for the correct size or tartan. So, the WPG kilts are a heck of a lot better than the cheap poly viscose jobs out there.
http://www.squaddiekit.com/ was a wash for any kilts, at least online. I did find a few on their eBay site, but they are not in wearable sizes except for a tall teenager.
Anyway, I find that a good surplus kilt is pretty hard to find and I am a real military surplus freak. And since I wear Forbes Tartan, I would have to hope for a Liverpool Scottish kilt in my size.
Good Luck!
