tartan patch for a TOS

Thanks! Am I correct in assuming that it is actually cut a bit bigger and the edges folded under? Do you have it sewn to your Tam O' Shanter (TOS) on three sides to allow for a sprig to be inserted?

The size is what I was after but the other details are also of interest now that I am about to apply one on my own bonnet.

Not a sprig, but certainly a hackle.
