    1st kilt pictoral: a reverse k x-kilt

    Day 1:

washed and dried fabric x2 - the fabric is a medium weight black cotton canvas that is sturdy and easier to work with then heavy duck cloth canvas.

laid it out, ironed and cut to size:

Hemmed the edge - I used a small carpentry t-square as a guide to ensure an equal fold.

Pined, ironed, and stitched the hem.

    Drew the fell line.

measured out the apron and then started with the 14 pleats (5" plus a 2" reveal)

After I was done I folded it all up to see if my math was correct.

    End of Day 1.

-IF ANYONE EVER SEES SOMETHING I AM DOING WRONG PLEASE TELL ME ...THX - Eric

Um, in that picture you have 7 pleats on one side of the join, and eight on the other. Is there a reason for that? Say, for example, that was just a fold-up for the picture and not actually how the kilt will pleat up?

Aside from that, it looks *great*!

good catch, I think I might have to take a closer look at what I was doing when I rolled it out in the AM.

Looks good. Black is a good choice.

So I couldn't sleep because this was on my mind ... ended up being a folding error. I added an extra flap on the under apron pleat of the over apron side. Easy fix, thanks goodness. Best wishes. -EW

    thoughts on contrasting pleats?

So I spent a little more time on the kilt this noon:

Cut, folded, pinned, and pressed contrasting pleat panels (it's red wine/burgundy - pic got a bit washed out)

Then I decided to mock pin a couple pleats to see how it would look to make sure I like it.

Overall I like the contrasting pleats, but part of me thinks the black/burgundy has too much contrast.

Any thoughts on the color combo?

I, personally, like the look. I was thinking about it last week and seeing yours, I think I will go that direction. Can't wait to see the finished product! Good luck!

See! I'm not the only one who takes pictures of "wine/burgundy/MAROON" fabric that looks pink!

I think the color combo is absolutely wizard!

    Be well,

decided to go all black...although I have been sewing since I was about 6 I decided to keep my 1st kilt simple. Today I ironed and stitched all the pleats - took a while but was simple. After another batch of measurements I also added 2 additional pleats. So now there are 16 total (if you noticed).
