This tartan (aka clergy) is usually produced in blue, and if you go that route I can do a box pleated kilt for you for $390. If you'd like it special woven in purple, though, I can make a box pleated kilt for you for $490.

I don't know from your message, but if you are considering making it yourself, the Scottish Tartans Museum offers custom woven cloth for $65/yd, 29" wide. That's $260 for a four yard length (for a box pleated kilt), and shipping would be free.

My understanding is that with a 48" waist I would need a bit over 4 yards so your price isn't really any different from theirs, I based theirs on needing 4 meters. Biggest issue is cost, I'm graduating and have no spare money for paying someone to make it and would have to sew it myself, your site also suggests you couldn't get it to me in time even if I could produce the spare cash. The purple is wanted because it is the school colours and would be suitable for the lenten season as well.

I fail to see how that is relevant! Dressing to match the liturgical season sounds a little...odd, actually. Shouldn't you be in sack cloth and ashes, if that were the case? All tartan is appropriate for Lent. Green, or red, or white (except Lenten Array linen), or rose, or cloth of gold VESTMENTS are not, unless it is a feast day.

    Kind regards,

Right, if your waist is a 48" you'd need to order 5 yards of the cloth ($325). We can supply the cloth in 8 to 12 weeks, typical time for a custom run.
