Its not entirely odd, different seasons have different colours appropriate to them, Lent has purple, advent can be purple or blue, ordinary times are green. You'll find ministers wear robes or scarves appropriate to this fact. I'd like a kilt that matches my school colours for graduation, it just happens to be convenient that that particular colour will be more appropriate to wear on the pulpit at certain times.
