I suppose you looked ok but the laird's plaid really looked like it was to long to me. But maybe that's just ignorance on my part.

Duchess, NOT IGNORANCE IMHO. but perhaps unfamiliarity.
The "LAIRD"S PLAID" is Large (it is as I said "a Car Robe stadium blanket" type item. IE - BLANKET. (not a "fashion" item, (like a "fly Plaid" but FUNCTIONAL.) Although there is no "standard" size 4' x 8' is "common"
Here is a pic. Note the Gent on the far left
Normally if I simply had it "draped"off the shoulder, it would have been doubled (length wise) & appear similar to the other Gents
Here is a pic of me wearing one (period attire0 The pic on the Right is how I was actually wearing it as I "strolled" down the street.
And yes the Plaids are the same size.
