Yes, all of this can be incorperated into the drama of the musical.
The tightening of corsets; the inventing of traditions; the weaving of laces... all in choreographed dance and song!
I tried to ask my inner curmudgeon before posting, but he sprayed me with the garden hose…

I think you're on to something, Ted.
The corset factory scene would most certainly make a great second act opening number, just when things started to unravel at the end of the first.

Oh good grief - I can visualise it so clearly, the curtain goes up, then the doors opening and the women streaming out onto the stage, just like the scene in Carmen outside the tobacco factory.
