Still think it adds to the "balance" of shortened jacket, will have to keep that in mind even when it's not part of the original construction. . .
While I have no skill myself to do these sort of alterations , I do think that the most crucial element for a successful conversion is to find the right jacket in the first place. It would seem to save a lot of time and effort and the end result will be far better for the tailor / seamstress.
