Guess I've spent way way way too much time in prisons and jails...come to see the inmates there as folks just like us...there but for the grace of God...danged if they won't be released sooner or later and be back among us...there is no "prison caste."
Wasn't talking about the "National Dress of Scotland" was suggesting functional denim or orange duc solid color work type kilts such as Utilikilts makes and some of the advertisers on this board make. Don't think that by making plain colored functional work kilts they are in any way insulting the "National Dress of Scotland."
And God knows what Australia would be like today without convicts.
And I'm guessing its really hard to see my tongue when its firmly planted in my cheek...gonna don my helmet and lay low in the foxhole until the firing dies down.

I disagree with them being just like us on every level because they are so far from it. Enough said.

Having worked for the UK Prison Service I can't see it happening. Prisoners do not have a personal issue of clothing that they can keep and maintain themselves - they get what they are given after each wash in the prison laundry.
Prisoners on remand may, however, wear their own clothes so that should include a kilt if they wanted (but sans pin for security.)
The Scottish Prison service does not make provision for even the warders to be kilted as part of the uniform so what hope for prisoners in Scottish jails.

Ron,
I read your post and didn't see anything there that made me think that you were joking or being silly. All I could think about was how very easy if would be for prisoners to carry illegal / dangerous items about their person wearing some sort of kilt.
FYI: The use of the emoticons or "smilies" are an aid to help convey a humorous intent.

One has to take responsibility for one's words. If you truly started this thread intending humor, you have failed. Realizing this, Instead of lying low because you have stirred people up, the proper response is to apologize.
"Gee I didn't mean to stir people up" or "I don't see why people are stirred up" do not help.
"Gee I'm sorry all, I was just joking. Please don't take what I wrote seriously" does.
I believe the hardest things in this world to say for most people are "I was wrong" and "I'm sorry"
Sadly these two phrases are the ones that are of the most use when dealing with other people.
Respectfully
Jamie

People who willingly break the law, are caught, convicted, and sent to prison, have abrogated their rights to choice of garb or anything else. And besides, we have enough "jail house fashion" wandering our streets now! Adding kilts to that "wardrobe" would be obscene....
