In fact, I had one that thinks I should wear it more often than I do. I did have one parent that seemed to not agree. He looked at me and asked me why a Spanish teacher would wear a kilt. Without being too rude, I told him that although I teach Spanish, I am not from Latin America and that my ancestry is from Scotland. I did not say some of things I really wanted to say to him. I think that sometimes parents believe that, for example, a Spanish teacher lives, breathes, and sleeps Spanish. They don’t realize that it is just my job. I love Spanish, but I love to wear kilts as well. Anyways, it was a great time last night. I did not go kilted to the conferences. Once the parents are used to it, and I get a nice kilt jacket, I will go kilted.
You could have also told him about the Scots who immigrated to Argentina, Admiral Cochrane, the "father" of the Chilean Navy and soldier-of-fortune, and the Battalion de San Patricio Pipe Band in Mexico City, just to name a few connections between the Scots and the Hispanic world
