Good on ya, laddie! And if anyone tries to poop in your cheerios and starts talking about how not all surnames were members of clans, and clans never wore tartans because tartans didn't come along until long after the wheels had come off the clan system, yadda yadda yadda, don't listen.
Enjoy learning about where you came from. If you're like me, this discovery will awaken a pride inside you that you didn't even know was there. Wear your tartan proudly.

One can wear a clan tartan with pride and recognise the many myths associated at the same time, you know?

I agree.
One can also wear one's group tartan and feel proud of it as if it were one's clan tartan, too.
I recall a few threads lately comparing the Leather Neck tartan to a clan tartan. Recognizing the myths around the clan tartans, I am fine with this comparison and respect the extention of the meaning of "clan."
I tried to ask my inner curmudgeon before posting, but he sprayed me with the garden hose…
Yes, I have squirrels in my brain…
