Have found it more comfy to fly in a USA Kilts casual without belt. Use a travel vest in lieu of a sporran - also for comfort - use the X Marks kilt pin so no worries about a long pin. Take it off an put it in the vest for the TSA screening. Take the vest off and run it through the X Ray rig. No metal on the USA Kilts beltless casual. Works great. Put the kilt pin back on once aboard the plane and stow the travel vest in the overhead. You can put a lot in a travel vest but its not considered a piece of carry on luggage.
Wearing a USA Kilts casual regimental on a long flight is as close to you can get to flying in your birthday suit. Very very comfy.
