Casual brown and gray
Off to the weekly square dance!

Look Ma, No belts!
This is my wool double-box pleat that I made last year. It's got NO belt loops.

I'm becoming a fan of garter flashes* (DIY)!
I'm becoming a fan of garter flashes whose color does NOT necessarily match the kilt's colors or the shirt's color or the hose's color! Like in my outfit above. I think it's probably because of the neutral colors overall and the flashes as, well, flashes or accents with its color! I think as long as you follow some color scheme/style.
Edit: *should be called "tied garters"

Lookin' good. The color of the flashes still coordinates well with the kilt fabric and brightens up the whole outfit.

The yellow accents work well as a highlight to the kilt and shirt/hose.

Your flashes are better, by far, than those dreadful tartan things.Well done.

Just as a point of clarification, I wouldn't call what you are wearing "flashes" or "garter flashes." It is, really a true garter. You might call it a "tied garter" to distinguish it from the more modern elastic versions most of us are used to.
"Flashes" are those colored tabs that are attached to the modern elastic garter, which are meant to emulate the tied knot ends of the traditional garters as you are wearing above. So, colored flashes attached to an elastic garter = "garter flashes." Hence, the common term for this particular accessory as most know it.
And, one final note. Please don't do as some I've heard and refer to them as "kilt flashers." That's a whole 'nothing thing, and one that will likely land you in jail! lol....

Thanks for points of clarification Matt. Accuracy in terminology is important to me. So this is a forward movement for me.
I've always thought of them as "flashes" whether historical or modern. That term evokes "accent" or things that "flash" which made some sense to me, because of the usual color contrast to the hose. I know what they're for - to hold up the hose. I don't know how the term came to be and who called it that the first time.
Fortunately, I've not heard of the phrase "kilt flashers" before you mentioned it here. That phrase does not make much sense to me - other than perhaps as a reference to that more permanent part, as opposed to just the plain accessory.
I shall henceforth call them "tied garters" (if they're actually tied around); if not "garters" or "hose garters" yes?
Thanks.

While on the subject of flashes and garters. I wanted to ask what the rules are for color. There must already be a discussion of this somewhere here?
Since I did not get a thumbs down on the color-coordination, -- I take it that not matching colors is okay. I hope so because I like it.
