I need to get some traditional garter ties for my outfit, too. No one has picked on me for the tartan flashes I have now, though.
I kind of like to throw in a little splash of color, like having a pocket square that doesn't match anything, sometimes. Perhaps the garters or flashes can be used in the same way.
Neat idea, Mein.
I tried to ask my inner curmudgeon before posting, but he sprayed me with the garden hose…

That's a good analogy Ted, pocket squares that don't match anything.
I can make a pair or two for you Ted... how about in, say burnt orange.

Hmmm, I keep thinking about medium blue garters for that corduroy jacket outfit with the brown Lewis hose, but I have not decided yet. I worry about these things way, way too much.

Mein,
It is a nice outfit.
It looks as if you are wearing a chain belt for your sporran.
May I offer you one small bit of advice?
You take a lot of pride (very justified) in your work, the chain sporran belts are pretty hard on a kilt's front apron . Vigorous dancing is going to rub that chain against the fabric even more and cause more wear.
As such a talented fellow I suggest you make your next task to whip up a leather sporran strap.
Save chain belts for very formal occasions.
Cheers

I took my sporrans down to Walmart, and matched them up to the regular dress belts. You might have to go to the women's belt section to find one to fit your sporran. That is if you don't want to make the strap yourself.
The other thing is to get a couple of chain dog collars, they have welded and polished links, and use those linked together if you want the chain. Guess the casual would be more with the leather belt for a strap, though.

Jamie,
Thank you. I know, I have only one sporran and this is it for now. But I shall soon rectify it!
I hear you - it'd be my shame if I damaged the wool of that kilt because of the chain. Then it'll be ch-ch-chain of fools....
Ah, that's good to know that chains still have a place in the formal ensemble.
Thanks again and your advice is always welcome.

Hi Mein ,
I think your outfit works quite well. Lovely kilt and I really like those garter ties. I like how you make them in comparision to the typical flat woven style (mind you I do like those as well). I'm a fan of the traditional garter ties. Maybe I can convice you to make me a pair sometime .
