Our entire pipe band, though from Southern California, went with the BC tartan back in the mid-1980's. It's colours were very popular back then, the teal and cherry red!
Anyhow, what tartan should I wear? Hmmm...my grandmother was a Cooper...my father's side was supposedly from the Isle of Arran/Kintyre area...my mother's side was from County Cavan...my last name is Cook...we're from West Virginia...so I guess: Arran
