Unlike Glen and Bradley, I own a Carolina kilt and actually live in North Carolina. In fact, I was born in this state, and have never resided anywhere else -- nor do I have the desire to. I love my home state and consider myself blessed to be able to live here! (and for what it's worth, if I ever had to relocate to a different state, my second choice would be South Carolina, in which case the tartan would still apply). :-)

All the pictures thus far have been of the Carolina tartan in the old Wilsons of Bannockburn colors (c. late 18th cent), which was the color scheme used by Peter MacDonald, the designer of the tartan. See:
www.carolinatartan.com
Here is an image of the same tartan in the modern color scheme, with the colors a bit brighter.

This is the same cloth that the Cross Creek Pipes & Drums have their new kilts in. I sold this kilt to a fellow in the UK, proving once again that you don't have to actually reside in the Carolinas to enjoy wearing this tartan.
Lastly, just for general FYI, I am strongly considering having one of these woven up to keep on hand at the museum gift shop:

If I can get a whole bolt of the cloth woven up to keep on hand, I would be able to offer kilts and yard goods in this tartan at standard, as opposed to custom prices, making it a bit easier for all of y'all who want a Carolina kilt to budget it.
It may be a few months before it happens, though. We are just now starting to come out of our "slow season" at the museum (tourism is very seasonal up in the NC mountains) and until things pick up for the summer we have to watch every penny we spend carefully. Then once the bolt is ordered, it would still be another two to three months before we actually saw the cloth.
But if anyone is thinking of ordering a Carolina kilt, or would be interested in yard goods, and wants to go ahead and commit to an order, that may enable us to order the bolt of cloth sooner, rather than later. Just let me know.
