Garment bags?

Curious if anyone has any experience with garment bags for kilt storage. I would like something large enough for my kilt, PC and the rest of the ensemble.

I've been looking at wally bags but am curious what size would be required.

I do take along a kit in the car on occasion. The kit travels best in a cloth garment bag, if it is to be in a closed up car. The argyll and waistcoat are hung on a cedar hanger, to protect everything in the bag, should I stay at an inn.

Are you looking for transportable storage or just a home storage device?

I have one of those hanging closet things. It's about five feet tall and about three feet wide. It holds my one wool kilt and my Argyll jacket plus all of my accessories. I have cedar blocks on the inside and some on the hangers that are attached to the top of the enclosure. It works really well for home storage but would not be practical for travel.

Mostly for home storage... is what you're describing the large plastic box looking thing?

Not sure if I have room in any of my closets for something that large. That's why I was looking more at the bags.

On the single suit sized bags from WalMart, I have had difficulties with the zipper sides coming apart. They kind of unzip themselves. I do have two of the 17" multiple garment contraptions with the internal frame and hanging rod I like those and that is what I use for my suits and nicer garments.

Order of the Gael makes a wonderful bag, I have one- room enough for three kits including sporran and shoes. I haven't filled it up all the way yet but have my PC and semi-formal wear in it at present. So, what Cerebite said!

I use he inexpensive suit/dress bags from WalMarche' to hang my hand sewn's at home. They have a breathable side. Use the same bags for travel.

Do have the Order of the Gael hangers for my hand sewn's. Like them a lot.

I have several of the simple plastic and tyvek type breathable side bags from walmart or target for storage and I also have a travel bag from Order of the Gael. I have a handful of Scotwebs kilt hangers which are great, several pairs of simple skirt hangers (like the scotwebs but half the size with only two clips---used two per kilt and folded in half to hang), and 4 Gael hangers. I like the Scotwebs best and the other two systems are functional. The Gael hangers, although most multifunctional, are the hardest to use IMHO and have a definite weak spot at a wood joint in the hanger part----I have had one replaced and had to reglue two of them in the 12 months I have had thier system. The Gael hangger's three parallel sets of kilt clips are actually somewhat cumbersome to use and IMHO not wide enough for my kilts (45" waist) or for my jackets and vests (50xl). I prefer to travel with my Samsonite oversize garment bag and the scotweb hangers and regular coat hangers for my jackets/waistcoats, if I am packing for airlines. If I am simply driving somewhere the Gael is addequate, but I worry the hangers won't last the abuse of the baggage gorrillas at the airport if I were to fly with it.

I use lavender scented blocks with the hanging bags along with some cedar block hangers to ward off the moths, and prefer the scent of the lavendar personally.
