I thought I would throw in a little tidbit here. I'm working on my wife to get her to wear a bit more of the tartans, but in the meantime here's a good little article showcasing several good tartan wear options for the lasses!

A few options listed in the article look like this:

Enjoy!

Speaking of tartan alternatives for the ladies--well TNkiltedwolf was speaking of them--I like this skirt which you can order custom sized for a very reasonable price from Glengarry hats. I want my wife to get one:

Found this while browsing picasa web albums... tartan tights!

Not sure what I think of them to be honest with you. I think with the right outfit they could look nice. I think I'd like them better with the tartan on the bias. I did a quick google search for "tartan tights" and there seems to be quite a selection available, but all with the tartan straight, like this:

I guess I'm just used to seeing historic images of men's trews with the tartan on the bias.

More tartan wellies!

Sometimes a little touch of tartan is all that is needed. The same lady who bought the above pictured Wellies on her trip to Scotland has about a dozen different images in her photo album from her trip where she is wearing this scarf, with a variety of outfits.

A nice scarf (especially during the colder months) is a nice way to show your tartan when you don't want or need to go whole hog with your outfit, much like a man can wear a simple tartan neck tie when not in the kilt.

I like these, and I also agree with the big red X on the pants---eek!
I love the scarf above too, I think that's a great idea. Also, a great thing to do with remnant tartan from kilt making... anyone want to throw some my way?
Tartan on the bias would be much more flattering on the legs, that's a definite!
Thanks for the support all

Very nice Ali. You wear it very well.
Cheers!

Ali, I like the look (including the boots.)
Just my two cents.

Ali, great look. I think the top and tartan skirt are spot on. As Matt said perhapse different shoes, but the boots certainly do look comfortable. Perhapse black shoes with knee socks for the warmth? At any rate you do look very nice, your husband is a luckier man than he realizes.

Rugby shirt and scarf, now there is a look any woman could pull off and look totally at ease and comfortable.
