Good luck, Aldisimo. Hope it comes out well.

Woven fabrics stretch along the bias. That's a handy feature for pockets, which is why you see pockets cut that way. (I'm wearing a solid color oxford cloth dress shirt, and it's got its pocket cut on the bias, but since it's solid blue, it's very hard to tell, even if you're looking for that.)

Well dang! Dixie that was a lot of thought you put into this problem. I think it will turn out well especially on the bias but tartan has been worn lots of times that is less than a perfect match. I have my grandfather's smoking jacket, a tie and a kilt all of the 'same' tartan. No perfect match. Oh, and a nice rug for the bed. That's what my gram called a small blanket. All a little different. Just makes it more interesting for me.

I guess I can kind of relate to that a little. The tartan has meaning, so the exact match isn't as important.

Although, for my own outfits, I think I would try to go easy on having everything in tartan.

Wow - that is too weird for words....

Ya, Barb, I have a hard time understanding it too. I think it was just an odd section of the bolt, and it had that extra width for some reason.

I haven't seen Mein on the forum for a couple of weeks, and he would be better able to explain it than me. I hope he is doing OK.

That was nothing. If the piece had been woven properly and cut properly it HAD to match. I just couldn't imagine it not matching and couldn't 'see' the mistake in the weave and understand why it didn't match.

Sewing with tartan is a challenge and a lot of layout thought is involved. Having an asymmetrical tartan adds another dimension to that challenge. Having a mistake in the weave of that asymmetrical tartan will bend the mind and insanity will ensue.
