I don't think the issue should go away. I have enjoyed this thread with all its historical references.

What I don't understand, is why all the references to history when discussing whether Wales should be represented on the union flag in the 21st century. We are living in the 21st century, we don't have to live by what happened 8 centuries ago.

The Welsh people have certainly done their share to put the great in Great Britain. They have also kept their identity for that 8 hundred years. Everyone in the UK knows Wales as a country in its own right. Who cares whether they were ruled by a prince or a king 8 centuries ago.

I love my Union Flag and it is flying in front of my house right now, beside my wifes Stars & Stripes, but I would like to see Wales represented on it.

The Union Flag does not belong to the monarchy or the government or the Royal Navy, it is the national flag of the UK and as such belongs to the people of the UK. So does the government, the monarchy and the Royal Navy for that matter.

The flag of the Royal Navy is the white ensign. They only fly the Union Jack when in port or on the admirals flag ship.
