I'd say go for it if you can afford it, it is really lovely to be able to have choice.
You are right there are some who only have one tartan (although sometimes they have several in different colour variations) and believe strongly in a single family representation.
Realistically unless you have very strong reasons that you are not allowed to wear other tartans, go for it and join the rest of us, indeed the most of us who have many different tartans, not least the the special offer is on a favourite tartan!

not at all. I ended up choosing Campbell because it is my middle; and my mother's maiden name.
I wouldnt mind wearing any clan's tartan - as long as it looks good!
