Unfortunatelly, the batteries in my camera died so I have no pictures of the hand-fasting (wedding) to post and I don't know how to copy and paste pics from someone else's post. However I will do my best to explain what is going on in the picture that Panache posted from th Dunsmuir Highland Games over the past weekend.
I am a memeber of a living history re-enacment guild the re-creates the Royal Court of Mary Stewart (Mary, Queen of Scots and the Isles) c.1562.

The two people in the picture are members of our guild who met a Ren a few ago years and fell in love. They are Sir Richard Wallace (his real name) Lord High Sheriff of Edinburgh and Valerie Smith (Lady Valerie MacKenzie-Royal Secretary of the Guild of St. Gyles). The man in the very fancy white costume is our guild master who portrays James Stewart - The Earl of Moray (the Queen's half-brother) for any historians among us. He is also an ordianed Jesuit priest.
Various items are brought in one by one (each with its own meaning):
The bowl of water to holy the ground.
bread, salt, wine, (the meanings of which I'm not too sure of as I was sitting where I couldn't see or hear very well). There is also an egg which sybolises fertility. A sword is placed what would be the threshold, if the ceremon were held in a building, to keep enemies away. The coupled wrists are bound together with different colored ribbons- eac signifying a different virtue.
I will try to get a copy of the script.
This ceremony is performed as it would have been done in the 16th century.
Several members of the audience commented on how beautiful the ceremony was. A number of ladies and some men said that they wanted a similar ceremony for their wedding.
I will try to get pictures and video that were shot by some of our guild folk to post in the near future.

Humm... I don't think so.
