Setting up false expectations

I've learned alot from reading this forum over the past couple of years. I was blessed to have been given my one and only 16oz wool machine sewn kilt by my friends and family when I turned 50. I do hope to own two or three more as I am able to afford them.

I find real value in studying the kilts and kit of so many of the members, so I really appreciate the pictures. I've also learned what the quality of certain items can mean and refuse to settle for less, so, I save, or do side-work to earn additional money so that what I buy does not effect the household budget. I've also learned to make some things myself, kiltpins mostly, and my one and only sporran is one I found hand-made on E-Bay that I then embellished with some deer antler.

So........ given all of this and the consensus that it's not how many kilts you own, or the number of full mask sporrans you have, DO WE REALLY NEED A LINE ON EACH POST THAT TELLS THE WORLD HOW MANY KILTS WE OWN?

Need? No. Useful if you want to share? Yes.

Like location, you don't need to tell people where you are. but it helps. Now, sure, the person with 1 kilt might well know more than someone with 10 kilts. But law of averages tells us that the person with 10 has experience, while the person with 1 might want more advice to what they want. Of course there will be exceptions, we know that. I think it helps us to know each other just a bit better.

Sorry Sathor, but this sounds like so much waffling to me. Respectfully, I think if you want someone to know how many kilts you have, post it. If you want newcomers to not be intimidated, remove the line.

This is a very small issue.

Are you saying what I responded was nonsense, or that the count creates a form of pack mentality that would lead to showing off?

I am unsure if I should be insulted by that comment or appreciative of the level of intelligence you displayed.

For me it's not about how many kilts others own, but to see what the "norm" is out there. Especially in the states where the Scot/Kilt wearers community is few and far between. Look at it this way, my Dad's family is ethnic Slovenian. The all live in the same city along with other children of those immigrants. The traditions they decided to keep from the old country are easy to pass to me. (As a matter of fact they didn't keep many traditions from what I hear). My mother's family (literally) lives in the far corners of the US. Plus we are several generations removed from our immigrant ancestors. The old world community just isn't there anymore. Sorry, now I'm just rambling... I just think it's interesting to see how others live out the tradition.
