The slashed doublets as Woodsheal points out are correct for the period. I have a feeling though you are talking about the leather jacket Liam Neeson is wearing in the Movie. It appears the sleeves are laced to the body of the Jacket in the Movie. The closest thing I can think of would be the Leather coats worn during the 1640's when Covenateer and Royalist alike did wear these, though they more prevalent with Cromwell's roundheads. MacIan of GlenCoe was sporting one of these in 1689 at Killiecrankie. One thing to bear in mind most jackets worn during the 15 and the 19 were solid colors. Tartan coats are in vogue during the 45.
