I am not pushing Sport Kilt (SK) over any other brand, however, I will say that they have tartan selection replent with choices. They have tartans form almost every state in America. As well as Armed Forces, Law Enforcement, and Fire Fighters. I am NOT saying that other brands lack such stock, just that SK had them were I found them fast. You don't need a clan tartan.
As a Mason (Brick Layer, stone worker, not FM) my next kilt will more than likely be a Utilikilt. They come in five basic patterns, and claim high durability. The Utilikilt is also fairly inexpensive and start under $200.
