Oh well, what can you do. I guess I will just make the ultimate 'sacrifice' and wear long sleeves. You know, I don't even wear long sleeves in the winter. I just never got used to it.

As I live in Salt Lake City, too. What I would suggest is a long sleved white shirt, possibly with French Cuffs, Silver cuff links. I would pick a tie that matched one of the colors from the kilt, had white in it, and another complementary color. I would also recommend choosing to go with either brown, or black leathers, but not both. I would choose hose which is a cream color, or which matches the kilt. If you go to DI you can find a nice tweed sport jacket which could be converted to a nice kilt jacket, and it is not usually to hot at some times of the year to wear said jacket.

    Now that being said,
Matt Newsome posted somewhere on the internet the reasons he DOES NOT wear a kilt to church, and I would suggest you consider the distraction you would cause. It is for this reason that I do not wear a kilt to church. This however is a personal choice, and the choice I made. Yours may be different.

That's a curious thought - if I went to a church where it caused some sort of commotion or distraction then I think it would be time to go church shopping - but then again no one in my church wears kilts cuz everyone goes naked

What he meant by wearing the kilt being distracting was that people go to church to have a certain experience. Others in the congregation can do many things which can distract from that experience.

Also he does look like a missionary.

    Update update

Well here is my updated look (based on some suggestions from many of you). I was not able to change everything, since I don't have all the stuff I want (i.e. jacket and different colored socks and tie).

I have taken into consideration that it might be a distraction. I plan on speaking with my bishop and stake president (pastors) about it. I am going to see what they think first. If it is going to be to big a distraction, I would not wear it. If only one other person in my congregation wore one, it might be a touch easier. Maybe I could get the native Hawaiian gentlemen to wear his lava lava (I think that is what it is called.)

I have been to the DI, but since I have never done a kilt conversion, I don't know what to look for. Should I just look for the color I want in my size and just buy it? I am not sure what specifics I should look at.

    I agree with Rex.

I also like the light blue shirt idea myself. I think that when I was young and if I were going to church in Utah my other Sunday duties would require the white shirt. But the truth be known when I was young I spent most I my time going to church in Callif. where myself and the Samoan boys would wear white shirts/tie and a black Lava lava with leather sandles.

I personally am not a fan of the black hose with kilt unless you are matching a dark shirt.

Well, I hadn't read to the end of the thread before I posted.

Yes, it's called a lava lava and they are great. The skunk sporran will get more attention than the kilt. You've done great with the improvements.

    Good Job.

Just observations, nothing else. To my eyes, your kilt still needs to to rise by at least an inch, to the top of the knee cap. A very minor thing, your kilt pin might be better the other way up. Traditionally they are worn point down so that if it comes unclipped at least there is a chance that you may spot the problem before it falls out. Oh and being really finniky now! Perhaps the kilt pin could be moved a wee tad further to your right?

I'd suggest that the bicycle and a kilt would get all the attention a guy would ever not want. When I went to school (in Provo) I did however ride my motorcycle in my kilts. No name tag though.
