Over here we used to have nothing , at work or at home, until about ten or fifteen years ago when we imported the North American 'trick or treat' stuff. Before that we had absolutely nothing and used to see you guys doing your thing on US sitcoms etc.
As for taking it into work, I think it'll be a few years yet before we pick up on that. But, as with all things American, it'll hop on a cyber boat and sail its way over here one fine day!
An interesting thread from a bemused onlooker!

Actually, some us still practice it as Samhain- myself for example- but I do allow my kids to participate in the more mainstream celebration. It's all in good fun so why not?

Colorado is expecting it's first snow storm of the year to roll in tonight. I have the feeling that this is going to be a cold Halloween here. Cold nights with full moons in Colorado are always the prettiest.

I tried this last year and a guest at my friends party took me to task for showing up without a costume. She was not mollified when my friend tried to explain that for me jeans and a western/cowboy shirt is a costume. She glared at me the rest of the evening. I just figured that, while she didn't realise it, I was helping finish out her costume as a harpie. Always good to help other people find ways to express themselves, isn't it!

Sorry, but you guys have totally lost me! I know little of Halloween other than that is the evening when small, unsupervised children are encouraged to go knocking at the doors of strangers to beg for sweets (candies). There are no small children in this area so I have never had them knocking at my door. Around here Halloween evening is no different to any other, and that seems to have been the case wherever I have lived.
The celebration of Halloween in my experience is a comparatively recent event which appears to have been fuelled by commercial establishments such as the supermarkets.
Take care,
Ham.

We can rent a bus, Hamish and ship the wee beggars to your Mansion... so you can "enjoy" the night of begging...LOL

Take care,
Ham.
But Ham! Everything here is fuelled by commercial establishments!!! We enjoy any excuse for a party, even recreating our youthful costumed trick-or-treating. For most of us Halloween is much like Mardi-Gras or Carnival. It's a chance to become either incognito or an alter ego by dressing up in costume and experiencing a slightly different persona.

Although I grew up in Canada, I can't remember any adults getting involved in Halloween, except for a few parents with their children in tow. So when did all this adults getting costumed happen?

Well, it seems that as my generation gets older, we refuse to grow up. So you get more and more adults acting like kids... ;)
Last Halloween, I was in "biker normal", as we were working on a case. Had someone ask me (and the five other people with me, all in colors) "Oh... are you guys supposed to be bikers?". Kinda felt bad at that point, as we had all forgotten about what day it was...

Aye Jamie, I am very much afraid that is true - and it is spreading eastwards across the pond fairly speedily too, although I am not aware that adults get involved with the Halloween thing. I certainly do not know any!
Best to Gina, the family and you.
Take care,
Ham.
