I don't know if Lochcarron even weaves this any more. I checked a couple years ago, and they told me that it was no longer available. Maybe they've started weaving it again.

Not to hijack, but Lochcarron will weave anew if the demand is there. This is a Lochacrarron repro Davidson last woven (I think) in the late 1970s for my father. I have a kilt and a pair of trews in this wonderrful 16+ fabric, there are several more kilts and waistcoats in the family and there was some fabric left over for stoles and cushions. With a bunch of demand I suppose it would be woven again. And as an aside, this may be one of the finest kilts in my pretty-large wordrobe.

Thanks for posting those great pictures...I certainly hope I will be able to get the tartan woven because I'm more determined than ever after seeing it in a kilt. Your advice seals the deal on the pleating as well.

No hijack there... it's good to know and btw, yours is another beautiful tartan... to say nothing of those excellent hose!
Thanks all for the input!

Hi Ken,
I just checked with Lochcarron and they no longer weave Stewart, Old Sett in the Weathered Colours, only Ancient and Modern. So, that leaves a Custom Weave as the only option. Fortunately, that only requires a minimum order of 4 yards, so it's definitely doable.
Which brings me to this important lesson for all XMarkers:
Lochcarron's website is out of date and doesn't reflect their current catalogue of tartans. If you have your heart set on a tartan, they may not weave it anymore.

Thanks for checking on that! It's not great news, but it's good to know.
I'll have to adjust the $$ target up a bit, but I'm undaunted.

D.C. Dalgliesh will weave any tartan in a custom weave, one kilt length (i.e., you don't have to order 30 yards, or something like that). It's not as costly as you might imagine, and it is kilting fabric "to die for" - the best, as far as I am concerned. Either Matt or I can arrange to have it woven for you. Just PM one of us, if you are interested!

Both of those pics are absolutely awesome kilts.
The one from Barb is amazing and the tartan is accented well in the kilt. I think you have a winner there!!!

I would second what Barb has to say about DC Dagliesh, my Royal Naval Association tartan kilt was woven by DC Dagliesh in an 8 yard piece. I then had Barb sew up a kilt with it, it is still one of my favourites, the wool is like no other kilt I own. I'd highly recommend going that way for it, it really is worth the little extra.

***disclaimers... 1. This has NOTHING to do with Dalgleish's quality (which is excellent), I'm simply giving other options. 2. Sorry for the watermarks.
How about Stewart Old MUTED? Strathmore and House of Edgar both have a version. They're both 'stock tartans', so there wouldn't be as much of a wait to have the material woven:

HOE:

SIDE NOTE: Since the sett size isn't 15", but much more managable on these, you could have it pleated to sett or stripe.
