    It's 100% wool... just a lighter weight. It feels much softer and less scratchy than worsted wool. It holds a pleat but wrinkles more easily. Because it's lighter weight, it doesn't fall as nicely and the wind blows it more easily. Mine is in a Stirling and Bannockburn tartan, and its colors are quite a bit softer than my dad's Stirling and B. worsted wool kilt.

    It was my dad's who gave it to me, and my grandmother took in it (albeit she made the apron too narrow and it needs to be fixed.) He got it by trading a set of bagpipes to someone back in the 80's. It's not a cheap kilt and wouldn't compare price-wise to a synthetic one. It is hand-made afterall. But if you refuse to wear anything but wool, it will be a bit cheaper than heavy-weight worsted.
