Aaauugghhh!! Get that hat off the bed! That's almost as bad luck as putting shoes on a table.
A really fine bonnet you have there, and I like the extra addition you put on.

I know that's an old cowboy superstition, but didn't know it extended to all hats.

The hat-on-bed superstition is indeed an old one.
It was once believed that evil spirits could be found in your hair. This belief was no doubt a result of the observance of the phenomenon that we now know as static electricity.
People would remove their hats and their hair would stand up. So it was believed that the demons were getting into your hair, and your hat. If you were to lay your hat on your bed, then the evil spirits could spill out onto the bed and enter you while you were asleep.
This superstition shifted once static electricity became widely understood, and became another superstition based on sanitation. Putting a hat on a bed could cause the spread of lice.
Anyway, it is good to know that none of us are going to have any of these problems with the fine handwork from Ryan Ross!

Thanks for that explanation, Mark! Never thought about the static angle before! Oh, and your bonnet is finished. Love the color. Garters are on the way.

The bonnet that you made for me is in hand, and it is supurlative in every way. I will post pictures in a new thread next week, if my poor camera has any life left in it. The salt water has done it's deed.
