    I join you in your celebration. I know that when my granddaugter (the first one to come along) was born, I was not in the least prepared for the wash of emotion that covered me when I first laid eyes on her perfect little body.

    I was smitten and have remained so.

    Give the little critter a hug for me, and tell his mother and your son that I send greetinging to them and to James Alexander. (What a dandy name. A fine name if ever there was one.)

    And toast your wife for a job well done and prepare to assume the mantle of chief spoiler of children. It is a grandfather's purogative to do so.

    Here's to James Alexander. I hope to see him kilted at the games very soon.

    Congratulations on such a blessing!

    Interestingly enough, my earliest known Scots-Irish immigrant ancestor was James Alexander Wauchope from Carrickfergus, County Antrim. I've always thought that "James Alexander" was a great name.
