First Sporran Attempt

I've been dabbling in leather craft for about a year or so now, and I thought I'd see if I could make a sporran. I have one of Donnie's sporrans from Wyvern Leatherworks, and I love how roomy they are. I kind of reverse-engineered it to get ideas on how they are put together. I shortened it up a bit but tried to leave it as roomy as possible. The result came out better than I was expecting, although I had several mistakes I will try to avoid on attempt number 2! I also think that I might add a couple of pockets in the next one, like an ID pocket or a phone pocket or something.

The leather-bond is still drying on the tassels in this pic, so that's what the white stuff is and why they are still bound in thread.

Wow! Nice work Justin! You obviously have quite a knack for it. And, you couldn't find a better craftsman to model your first attempt on. I look forward to seeing you next one!

I just started taking leather working lessons from this guy. I made a sgian dubh sheath as my first project- learning how to cut, measure, die, etc. He was working on a bag for the knife I made him- watching him doing that braiding is insane! His fingers do weird things that I can't imagine mine doing.

The whole leather working thing is really fun! I'm getting myself my first tool set this weekend. That tooling work you did is really nice! I can't wait until I'm that good!

Thanks, everyone. I appreciate your comments! I think I will be making one for my uncle next, as he has expressed his interest at having a "handmade item from family".

And Nighthawk, welcome to the craft! I agree that it is quite fun, and I hope to see some of your work some day! Have fun with it! I had bought a few tools a little at a time, and then I got a great deal at Tandy on the "Ultimate Leather Workshop" when it was on sale. It's pricey, but I would have spent more to get everything it included.

Well, I didn't do this on my own, my friend helped me, but this was my first project (the sheath- not the knife. That, I did all on my own- except for the growing of the antler! I let a deer do that!)
