OK...I have the saddest Iron Maiden story EVER. When I was in Jr.High, Iron Maiden came to Atlanta for their Aces High tour. My friend and I concocted a typical juvenile scheme to fool the parents "I'm spending the night over there", while he told his parents "I'm spending the night with Josh". You get the picture. We paid my friends older brother to buy tickets and take us to the show and let us stay with him in his apartment. We mowed a LOT of lawns to get the money!!
So the night came, and we were soooo excited. EVERYTHING was going to plan. Neither of us had been to a concert, and I'm sure you can understand what 2 14 year olds were feeling! We get to the Omni in Atlanta and go ine...We were crazed with excitement-We felt sooo....rebellious. We both chipped in and bought a Iron Maiden black concert T of Eddie in his spitfire that we agreed to share-1 week me, 1 week him.
So the opening act plays. It was Ace Frehly from Kiss and his band outside kiss....he sucked and was booed off the stage after about 4 songs....no joke-26k people booing is quite a sound!
So we waited.....and waited....and waited....Chanting started and FINALLY one of the members came out on stage to announce that the lead singer had suffered blunt trauma about 30 minutes prior and that the concert was going to be cancelled and rescheduled. We were CRUSHED! It was almost a riot in the Omni..So much so that my friends brother really hustled us out as chairs were being ripped from their bolts and other projectiles began flying...
It was the worst...Just the worst. I never got a chance again to see Iron Maiden....

Oh... That sucks!! When I saw Maiden in 1987, Twisted Sister were opening for them (I think!) and their singer ended up in the hospital as well. Maiden played like an extra half hour to make up for the lack of an opening band.

OK...Concert Story...
I went to the concert with my brother-in-law, nephew, and a cousin. They were all pre-warned that I intended to be kilted. When I picked them up, my nephew (aged 12) had a look of terror when he saw me get out of the truck. He was certain that I would be beaten-up, or at the least made fun of, by some head-banging heavy-metal dude.
To make a long story short, mid-way through the show, two young ladies (half my age) came over to us and asked if they could take their picture with me. Of course, who was I to say no, so a flash-bulb later, they smiled and thanked me, and were on their way back to the show.
My nephew tapped my shoulder, and with an outreached hand for a high-five, and a huge grin, exclaimed "That was awesome!"
My wife did not find this story very amusing... ...but,
this weekend, I found out from my brother-in-law that my nephew wants a kilt now.

Hmmm, I went to the Dio-Sabbath (Heaven and Hell) concert With my brother and Niece a couple of years ago and they didn't like any of my shirts. They made me buy a new shirt before we went, and it was an Iron Maiden shirt.
There's no way they would have let me wear a kilt!

NorCalPiper that is awful! When I was 16 or 17 I went to a concert (Testament, Green Jell-ö and some other band) and it was shut down because it was too loud. They said they'd reschedule it at the end of the tour and honour our tickets. Between that show and the end of the tour we had a fire in our house and my tickets were burned.
@bugbear I don't associate with people who dictate how I can and can't dress unless they are paying my pay check (and I am typing this from work wearing a Blackwatch PV.)

You should have shown them this thread! "See there? I'm not the only guy who goes to these things kilted! He has a great time! Oh, and Zakk Wylde plays kilted onstage with Ozzy all the time!" The ladies do like the kilt... I had so many women telling me that I had great legs that it was driving my wife to distraction! (And in all honesty, I like to flirt just a little to make her jealous- it's all part of my master plan to keep her interested. )

I have spent ticket stubs from that concert in Maryland. My friends and I piled into my VW Microbus "modified with a 289 short block" and I really don't remember much for about 48 hours.

That's how I am with the 1988 Seventh Son tour! I do remember that the weather was horrible that night, and that in spite of tornado warnings, the show went on! I actually recently got a bootleg of that show. Ol' Bruce comments on the weather and mentions something about a fear of dying between the time the show ends and the time he gets back to his hotel, and makes sure to tell us all to be safe on our drives home. We actually camped out in the JC Penny parking lot for a weekend waiting to get tickets for that show.
