the off cuts would come in handy. Thank you so much for everybody's imput. It makes sense to get a kilt made by them, I just needed that little push.

Just a quick question. I am paranoid about getting the length right on my knee. I want it to fall mid knee to maybe a little higher. Any advice on measuring?

Lately I have seen a lot of posts telling folk to wear their kilts on or below the knee. My recollection from having read several books on traditional kilts and tartans is that the bottom end should be higher than the knee.
The reason given was that when the kilt is wet (if it is knee length), the back of it will saw at the back of the knee. There is mention of soldiers parading before Queen Victoria who actually had blood running down their legs because of this.
Partly this was because of the hard kilt material, but the length was an additional factor.
The concept of the kilt hanging to the knee was introduced because Victoria wanted to see as little of the soldiers’ thighs as possible. But there is good evidence that before her reign, the standard length was three inches above the knee.
I would be interested to see what other members have to say on this matter.

Most people Would say either the top, middle or bottom of the knee.
I personaly prefer the middle/bottom of my knee for my kilts but alot of it is your own personal preference but you dont want it to far in either extreme or it will look silly.

just my opinion there are other older and wiser people on here to comment too.
