Thanks for the recommendations, Andy. I am conveniently lodged near both and JotW is a Tartan Hiker watering hole. I’ll be field testing my new Mountain Hardware Elkomando for the hiking.

I would love to see some kilted photos from there.
Terry, doesn’t look like I’ll be that far south in North Carolina. I’ll keep your request in mind when headed that way. It’s a place I too wish to see.

    Have a good trip!
    Bill,
There’s the Rose & Crown Pub at Epcot!
    Have a good time!!

Oh, to answer your question about which kilts to bring: Carolina, of course!
David, I am looking forward to that waterfall excursion, next Wednesday on my way to Grandfather. The closes tartan I have to the Carolina is my Caledonia USAK casual.

Oh the pressure, so much to do and the time is fast approaching!

    Oh well...no worries Ern.
My nephew & I have always wanted to join the historic Overmountain trek, following the same route Shelby & Sevier took to the mountain/battle. Just thinking/dreaming of walking the same route our ancestor took makes the hair stand up on my neck!

It'll be a grand trip I'm sure, and I can't wait to see the photos!

One of the stops on that route was Morganton, NC (well, Quaker Meadows, since Morganton didn't at that time exist) where I live. Let me know if you do get over this way.

    Cordially,

I'm jealous. I grew up in Greenville SC - just a stone's throw across the border. It's GAWD's country down there and so so so like the Southern Uplands of Scotland that it brings a knot to my throat. Every time I'm down there it reminds me of Scotland and everytime I'm on the train from Glasgow to Dumfries it reminds me of home.

Have an excellent vacation! (Wave at the Vanderbilts for me.l)

    Have a good time!!

It's on my list of things to do, even if it is over priced. We'll also be visiting one of the pubs in Hogsmeade (from the Wizarding World of Harry Potter at Universal).

I've been reading on the early Scots-Irish (Ulster Scots for our British and Irish cousins) settlements in Virginia and the Carolinas. Makes me want to get back down that way myself and do a little more exploring.
