Perhaps you could make something a little like a very long fluted Clovis point with the handle end, that would go in the shaft, wrapped with leather strips. Not sure what the back story would be on that, but it would be kind of cool...

I met a flint knapper today. He had a blade that was exactly the right size that he had knapped from the tank cover from an old toilet! He wouldn't sell it, though, because he was not satisfied with it and had it out only as a demonstration piece. Guess what his project for me is going to be... The gods work in strange ways, no?

Ishi, the Indian guy who lived at a museum etc, made an arrowhead out of the blue glass of a Milk of Magnesia bottle; I have a book about him.
Of course the gods work in strange ways, Nighthawk, they would be boring otherwise.
