Review of 4 yard box pleat
This is my first review, so I will try to do the best I can here:
I ordered a 4 yard box pleat from John, in January. This was after a month of him helping me decide which tartan I was going to go with, and finding that several of them were not available in kilt weight material. John was very helpful with the entire process of helping find the right tartan, which was not easy (I'm a pain when it comes to details).
I ordered my kilt in January with an estimated wait time of 16 weeks. There were a couple of delays in delivery, and it did not arrive in time for an event I had wanted it for. I think this is really a testament to just how in demand John's kilts are. I have never seen less than a 13 week wait on his website. I found his website very user friendly, and it is great that he posts and updates his wait/delivery time on his site. It really gives you perspective on how long to anticipate before completion.
The kilt arrived the first week of July, and is first rate. The material I chose is Gordon Huntly 2000. It fits great and looks awesome. John also went above and beyond to make up for the delay in delivery, with some added things. He really seems dedicated to customer service, and keeping the customer satisfied. Also, he informed me that he has brought on a person to deal with taking the orders and what not, so he has more time to dedicate to making the kilts. I do also have to say, that John really went the extra distance in advising me on what hose and tie would match well with the tartan I picked.
I also ordered a kilt for my son in Inglis Ancient. That should be here any day now. As soon as his kilt is here I will post a photo or two of both of us in our new kilts.
All in all, my experience with Keltoi was great. John is quick to respond to e-mails (24 hours or less), he double checks measurements before he starts the work, and his prices are more than reasonable. His attention to detail is great. He also packaged everything nicely, and the kilt did have basting stitches to hold the pleats in place, plus there was not a single wrinkle in the aprons.
I would recommend Keltoi to anyone. The customer service is top notch. Expect to wait for your kilt, but expect it to be first rate. Even with the wait time, he is still in line with most kilt makers as far as that is concerned, and actually much quicker than some of the other one person kilt makers out there.

I was not familiar with the Huntly Gordon 2000 and just looked it up on Tartan Ferret, it looks nice but I am anxious to see the kilt pics. I am also Jonesing for a kilt from John I ordered in Saffron.

Congratulations on your new kilt, and a fine testimony to John's fine customer service.
I have two of John's 4 yd box pleat kilts, and I also sing praises of his work and customer service. Mine are a Saffron and the O'Saffron. I have had many compliments on the quality of work and material. The O'Saffron has had many inquiries about the tartan and it's history, especially at the Texas Highland Games, at Arlington, Texas. John was great working with me, answering any and all questions, and even finding photos of the Royal Irish Regiment, wearing the kilt in various situations. I would highly refer a person to check out John's site and talk with him, he will help you get you the best options possible, and suggest fabric that will give you the best bang for your buck, if a tight budget is your situation.

continuation of review
Well, due to the USPS losing my son's kilt for a few days, it was extensively delayed. John shipped it on July 12, and it just came today. John did his job, Canada Post did their's, but the USPS screwed up.
My son's kilt was just as awesome as mine. It arrived neatly packaged and included some little extras that were a nice touch. My wife was more excited than me to see it. I think this is probably because it is here family's tartan, Inglis Ancient.
I think my son's kilt might have been more of a challenge than mine, as he is one year old, and John builds his kilts for children with a hem that can be let down as they grow. Needless to say, the hem is half way up the kilt, but the only way you can tell is by the line of stitching holding it up, and this stitching is only visible form the interior of the kilt, and only if you are really looking for it. I see my son getting several years of wear from this.
I will post pictures of me and the little guy as soon as I can get me and him into our kit, and the wife is ready with the camera. I give 100% endorsement of Keltoi, and their line of products. I consider John to be my kilt maker, and would be hard pressed to buy a kilt from anyone else.

The kilts are a little misaligned. It is very hard to keep a one year old's kilt in good order and your kilt in good order all at the same time.

Thanks for the great review, Aaron! I think the real challenge can be keeping the kilt on the child in the first place! My own son turned one yesterday and wore his first real kilt at a wedding two weeks ago. It spent most of the time being worn sideways...

Happy birthday to your little fellow. I hate to admit, my son's kilt looks nicer than mine! It could also just be that he is much more handsome than me, so anything will look better on him. Thank you for the wonderful service. It was all well worth the wait, and as I said, I now consider you my kilt maker. I hope to be ordering another in the not to distant future, but I will probably need even more help picking a tartan.
