I really like the houndstooth jacket -- great choice that I think is perfectly fitting with any tartan, any color.
Your choice of red hose -- despite the fact that there is no red in the tartan -- and your choosing not to wear a belt, both speak to me of confidence in your Highland dress. Both are perfectly legitimate choices that I think many neophytes would miss because they "go against the grain" of what many people are taught initially.
If I had to pick anything to change, I'd personally go with darker green flashes. Also, I think I'd prefer the sporran worn just a tad higher myself. I tend to wear my sporran higher when I'm not wearing a belt; not quite sure why, but it just "feels" right. :-)

Hi Matt,
I tend to agree with you about the colour of the garters. In actuality they are a bit darker than shown in the pic. I'm very partial to them, but yes, I wish they were a bit darker still.
I think I generally wear my sporrans a bit higher than shown...it must have been an "off day"!

I do like red hose, Matt! If one ascribed strictly to the "hose matching a colour in the tartan" school, MacLeans would have a bit of a challenge! Green, black, and white. I have found that almost any colour of hose ( with the obvious exception of white ) works with Maclean hunting tartan. I do not wear black hose, but almost all greens, reds, pinks, purples, most blues, greys, browns, yellows...even Fair Isle all "work".

Now it all falls into place.
We have a most interesting otter on our southern coast, called the Cape clawless otter. It is on the endangered list, so I won’t be looking to have a sporran made from it . . . on the other hand, one might by remote chance become available by legal means.
By the way, I like your style in bonnets.
Regards,
Mike

I love all the pics very well put together and you are in the greatest tartan of all. I love the houndstooth, not an option I have often seen.
I'll admit I have had problems picking hose to go with my MacLean Hunting. I have been stuck with a pair of white pipers hose because they had the largest calf size I could find, so I have never experimented much with other hose colors, hopefully to be soon to be rectified by a trip to the STM shop for some of their Lewis hose.
Just one question, in the more casual pic where you are wearing the yellow hose, is it the light or are your flashes safety-neon green? It looks like they could glow in the dark...which could be cool.
Thanks for the great pics.

Thanks for the great pics.
Actually, the garters are the same pair as in the other pics.
