The work looks excellent thus far, though. I have to tip my hat to your craftsmanship!
I wonder if you could use a more stretchy material for the gusset that would still look pretty close to what you had intended. I know there are some materials out there that look like leather but stretch generously. They tend to be thin, but could be doubled or tripled in layers to provide enough stiffness for functionality while still being stretchy enough for the inversion process.
I'll be honest, I wasn't pleased when I heard the tearing
It wasn't totally unexpected (as you can see from my original post), but still wasn't too welcomed.
I thought about using a softer, stretchier leather for the gusset, but didn't want things to get deformed during the inversion and remain baggy afterward.
As for synthetics... I just can't do it. Leather is nearly forever. Synthetics all have a 'sell by' date. Stretch vinyl and other things just don't cut it with me, and frequently can't handle a stitch a tight as I do for leather. They just end up tearing through.

Thanks Shaun. 12Mk2 is already under way. Panels are dyed, glued, oiled and curing right now. I'll sand edges to start the burnishing process tonite. With a touch of luck, by Sunday PM I'll be back to where I was yesterday.
