I know that this isn't entirely in the vein of this thread, but I wonder if anyone can answer...

I understand that seal skin sporrans are NLA - is this world wide or only in certain countries? Can seal sporrans still be bought new? If so, how much would one be looking at to buy one?

L&M Highland Outfitters from Nova Scotia, Canada, still make and ship seal sporrans all over the world.

You can still get them in Australia for around A$300. I have just checked the All Things Tartan website and they have semi formal ones for around A$175 and I think one formal stylefor A$280 You can get them off ebay for aound the same price, and I don't believe there is any prohibition on bringing them into Australia, at this time.

Give them a call at All Things Tartan, I think they could help you with other styles.

I have a hunting sporran similar to the one the OP purchased but it came from the Scottish Lion. I'd say it's a bit better quality and a bit nicer detailing than the average sporran in that price range... though nothing of heirloom quality either. It helps that I got mine on sale!
