I think that a tartan would have been less ambiguous but I like my utilikilt and feel quite comfortable in it. Kilts as everyday wear are not common where I live so I was sure to get some negative reactions. In most cases, the negativity came from those who are somewhat afraid to step out of the norm themselves. I DID get compliments from some of those who "got it".
