Now, for those who are sitting there, scratching their noggin' and asking, "What's a livery colour?"-- and no, it isn't a brownish red-- allow me to explain.

Livery colours are usually derived from the first named metal and colour as they appear in the blazon of a coat of arms. So, if the shield is Argent (silver, usually depicted as the colour white) and the principle charge, in this instance let's say a lion, is Azure (which is blue) then the livery colours would be blue and white.

Wearing diced hose in your livery colours would be an exceptionally sly thing to do. Go for it!
Good thing I'm not my clan chief. Oddly, his livery colors are white and white.

You'll be fine as long as your chief doesn't specify that the flat cap is the official clan headwear!

It would appear they should be gold and red. At least those are the primary metal and color from the 1st and 4th quarters of his arms and the colors used for the wreath (torse) in his achievement.

Ah, you are right. I was thinking of the supporters when I should have been thinking of the charge.
