Fitzroy MaClean wrote a book called Bonnie Prince Charlie. Excellent work, I have read it twice. I know there are others, however my bookshelves are doublestacked and this is the one that came to mind. Any or MaClean's work will be void of the Victorian pomp that is found in most of these writtings.

I can't think of one off the top of my head. . .But this reminds me of one I've been meaning to check out which, as a former military intelligence and psychological warfare officer, looks to me like a fascinating overview of those particular aspects of the conflict:

I'm killed in the war or hung during peace."

That would be Maclean, as in Sir Fitzroy Maclean of Dunconnel.

I'm not aware of any MacLean who spells his name with a capital "C".

Maybe it's the Scottish version of Mr. Clean. "Mr. MaClean"?

Typo attributed to good Scotch, which I must say is impressive since I did it twice. My apologies.

If you are looking for BASIC information you are best served by the rounded and short Osprey books on the subject. Several good ones. The Jacobite Risings, the Jacobite Army 1745-46 and The Highland Clansman 1689-1746. But please, dont take them as gospel in all regards, they do contain a few mistakes and are some what written with a Hanoverian bias. But for what they are, they are very good and very entertaining.
