Great work Drac. We will be posting pictures of the one you made for Sydnie7 and me very soon.

IMO: one sure sign of a real artist is that he's never truly happy with his work. He sees every micro-fault, every "what I could have done better", every "maybe next time". It's a self-torment. Luckily, it's also what fuels greater self-achievement. Not that it helps the individuals state of mind, or their temperance...

I can't wait to get my giant (much abused) mitts on this beauty.
Thank you again, Drac, for such a great trade. I hope the sporran brings as much joy (and envy from others ) as this sgian will.

Yessir. I drive myself nuts with that... I made a sporran for Biblemonkey, and he loved it. I, however, hated the fact that there out-of-place stitches... That knife is lovely! I am very envious, and would love to exchange a flawed sporran for a flawed sgain dubh like that!

Ah! Drac's little beauty was delivered to me in this afternoon's post.

I am now completely convinced the man is a true artist. Any 'flaws' he may be able to perceive are well beyond my ability to spot them, and I'm pretty picky myself

The graining of the wood is gorgeous and the mosaic pins a wonderful surprise. The weight of the knife is just about perfect, heavy enough for you to know it's there, light enough for it to not be an issue. A VERY nice edge makes this little gem not only beautiful but functional.

As I type, a prototype wet-moulded sheath is drying for it.

Pictures on my lovely new acquisition will hopefully follow tomorrow.

    You and me both, 'Hawk!

I remember spending hours on a pen & ink drawing, "messing up" (only I could see it), and unceremoniously tossing it in the garbage. A short moment later I'd see one of my friends digging it out. I'd ask "what are you doing?"
They thought it was great, but I wasn't happy, I still thought it belonged in the garbage!

(it's a beautiful sgian dubh by the way! )

That is only true if we are experienced enough to KNOW what we are doing, honest with ourselves, and care deeply about the craft.

And it is a beautiful Sgian!!!!!
